Got the job offer? Most countries that hire English teachers need the same two documents: an apostilled degree and an apostilled FBI background check. We handle both, plus passport photos, from one visit to 6124 Hwy 6 N, Houston.
What Most Teachers Need
- FBI background check with apostille: fingerprints, FBI check ($95) and U.S. Department of State apostille ($155)
- Diploma apostille: notarized copy ($10) and Texas apostille ($155)
- Transcripts: some countries and programs ask for them sealed or apostilled
- Passport and visa photos: $19.99 for two prints
Requirements by Country
- South Korea (E-2 visa, EPIK and private schools): apostilled diploma and an apostilled FBI check issued within 6 months. Many schools also ask for a Korean translation of the check.
- China: accepts the apostille since November 7, 2023, so the embassy step is gone. Expect a degree and a police check.
- Vietnam: accepts the apostille since September 11, 2026, see our apostille for Vietnam page.
- Japan: requirements vary by employer; most ask for a copy of your degree, and some ask for a background check.
- Spain: visa documents usually need an apostille and a translation by a sworn translator (traductor jurado).
- UAE and Qatar: embassy legalization instead of an apostille, so allow extra time.
Requirements change, so always follow the list from your recruiter, school or consulate.
Suggested Timeline
- 8 or more weeks before your visa appointment: come in for fingerprints, the diploma copy and photos.

- Next: the diploma apostille comes back from the Texas Secretary of State; we give you an estimate when you order.
- 3 to 5 weeks: FBI apostille comes back from the U.S. Department of State. Expedited service is $299 per document.

Frequently Asked Questions
What documents do I need to teach English abroad?
Most countries ask for an apostilled degree (diploma and sometimes transcripts) and an apostilled FBI background check. Some also want a TEFL certificate, passport photos and a health check. Your recruiter or school gives the final list.
How recent does my FBI background check need to be for Korea?
Korea generally asks for a check issued within 6 months of your visa application, with an apostille. Time your fingerprinting so the check is still valid when you apply.
Can I get everything done in one visit?
Mostly. In one visit we take your fingerprints for the FBI check, notarize your diploma copy and take passport photos. We then get the apostilles and send them back to you.
How long does the whole process take?
The FBI check result comes back in about 24 hours electronically, but the FBI apostille at the U.S. Department of State takes about 3 to 5 weeks. Start at least two months before your visa appointment.
What about teaching in the UAE or Qatar?
Those countries need embassy legalization instead of an apostille, which takes longer. Start even earlier and call us for a quote.
